@Laura, That water tables gets a lot of use, we don't have enough room for a kiddy pool, but when my daughter was about 2 I found her sitting in it as if it were a pool. It's amazing the things they find to throw into it to, rocks, soil, flowers etc...

@Granny, Yes, it is nice having the garden so close to the patio, right now if I sit at the end of the love seat, I have a beautiful blooming "Double Delight" Rose tapping me on the shoulder. And as gardeners we are always learning new things every year. I am already thinking of how next years garden is going to be planted.

Your garden looks wonderful! I loved having my garden right off the patio, and it's surprising just how much one can grow in a small space.

I did the same thing with my hollyhocks. I started the seedlings this spring, and set them out about 10 inches apart. Now they are an absolute jungle! I put five plants where I probably should have only one or two.

@Laura, Well considering that the side of the front garden was covered in brick before we moved it anything would have been an improvement. However, When I'm out working on the garden anyone who passes always pipes up and says how much they like it. I've even seen people,not even living in the complex, stop by from time to time and take a few pictures of the Dahlia's when they are blooming.

@Dave, That must have been a sight. Sometimes I find little critters so fascinating, just the other day I was captivated by a rather large bee buzzing about the Rhododendron flowers. You could see it plunging into the deepest part of the flower, searching for the sweet nectar.

What looks more primordial than a dragonfly?
Heather, I was once floating on an inner tube down the Slocan River in Kootenay country (with a television cameraman shooting the scenery) when a dragonfly actually alighted on the tip of my big toe. Talk about perfect timing! Sometimes nature gives us very large gifts.

I like your ingenuity! We have a similar problem here with townhouse communitys. My Mother's barely has a private recycling program. It's terrible. When I garden there I have to bring home my green waste and toss it in my bin. Unfortunately your solution wouldn't work here as we have city issued bin for the houses. We are actively encouraging our local politicians to try to change the way the townhouse waste system work. What good is our fabulous composting system if industry & condo & townhome areas can't opt in?

@Laura, I quickly grabed my camera and took a few shoots thinking that it would fly away any moment. I was quite suppried at how long the dragonfly stuck around, I quess it was enjoying that little bit of much needed sunshine. I was able to snap around it for 20 minutes, even taping it a few times as I went in for some close up shots and the wind whipping the branch around. I finally had to pull myself away to do other things.
